Education & Career Guidance Fair 2017

Dear Parents,

To complement existing efforts in education and career guidance (ECG), ECG Fairs are organised in collaboration with industry partners and post-secondary education institutes (PSEIs) to bring the world of work to students and teachers. This is in line with continual efforts to empower students to make informed education and career choices in school and beyond graduation, as part of the national SkillsFuture movement.

At the ECG Fair, students and teachers can explore education and career pathways in Singapore’s key growth sectors through exhibitions and activities conducted by industry experts and the PSEIs.
This is a great opportunity for parents to attend. You may click the link below for more information and registration .

Suicide games and signs of distress: what parents should do?

Dear Parents ,

You may have heard or seen trending on social media, an online game called the Blue Whale and a Netflix TV show called ‘13 Reasons Why’. The content related to self-harm or suicide that has been circulating is worrying as it may influence our children negatively on suicide being a viable and even glamorous way to deal with their problems.

While we cannot fully protect our children from being exposed to such viral content, parents and schools do play an important role in teaching them how to be more discerning and minimise the negative effects of exposure to such content.

We would like to share 2 articles published on Schoolbag.sg (click here (1) and click here (2)) to encourage parents to have an open conversation with their children about their struggles, including pointers on watching out for signs of anxiety and distress.

Please feel free to share the articles with other parents.

Have a good weekend ahead.

“The man, out of kindness and eagerness to help, had not understood the hard work that the butterfly had to go through to strengthen itself. But by intervening to help, he actually prevented Nature’s way of strengthening the butterfly and its wings.

In a similar way, are we, out of our best intentions, preventing our students from going through setbacks and failures and in the process, learn and build resilience?”
